Dansgroep Amsterdam is the principal contemporary dance company for the city of Amsterdam and continues its mission to showcase the work of three generations of living choreographers beyond the borders of the Netherlands.

Thanks to a growing global network, Dansgroep Amsterdam is able to coordinate a variety of partnerships and joint-ventures that contribute not only to the profile of the company abroad, but also to the resources and relationships that feed back into the Netherlands, benefiting Dutch dance as a whole.

Together with the ’muscular’ work being developed for domestic audiences on a daily basis, the international programme clearly asserts Dansgroep Amsterdam’s three objectives: to honour and preserve past creations and their inspiration; to encourage present growth and experimentation; and to innovate and anticipate future opportunities and trends in the profession.

International:

Dansgroep Amsterdam is in a unique position to present dance with a universal appeal to audiences worldwide and it is at the vanguard of the export of Dutch creative talent.

Following wildly successful appearances in Berlin (with Flatland) and Monte Carlo (with Le Danse des Sapeurs Pompiers), the company has its sights set on destinations as diverse as the United Kingdom, Spain and Stockholm; and as distant as New York, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro and the cities of Australia.

Repertoire is easily adapted for overseas demand. For example, Sapeurs Pompiers, which was created in Monaco with local firemen, will be performed in New York with heroes from Manhattan’s own fire departments. Nomade, part of the Picasso in Paris exhibition at the Amsterdam Van Gogh Museum, is compact and can easily be performed in the Picasso galleries of other major museums around the world.
