Toneelgroep Oostpool is a theatre company from Arnhem, The Netherlands. The company plays in large proscenium arch theatres, smaller studio’s, and on location. It creates about five to six productions per year for the general public, and about three educational projects for young people. The company has its own theatre in Arnhem.

It consists of a permanent company of seven young actors and two resident directors, Marcus Azzini and Erik Whien, under the guidance of artistic director Rob Klinkenberg. The group is complemented by guest actors, designers and directors.

Toneelgroep Oostpool is a lively and committed company of young artists who want to relate personal themes to greater events in a fragmented and complicated world. We think we understand this world through technology, politics and rationale, but we continually fail to grasp it. A commitment to the attempt to understand, is what the company tries to do, using the actor as linchpin.

International:

Toneelgroep Oostpool has just finished work on a ‘choreography for actors’, an improvised and highly visual work on the fragility and loneliness of the body, entitled What the body does not forget. This language-no-problem-production is available for touring abroad.

Because of director Marcus Azzini’s Brazilian roots, the company is interested in partnership with Portugal and Brazil. It is also interested in developing contacts with their close neighbours in Germany, from the North Rhine-Westphalia area.
