Solid Ground Movement was the first hiphop school in Amsterdam, becoming fully independent in 2011 under its artistic directors Alida Dors and Bryan Druiventak. It aims to train young dancers, to develop dance and theatre productions, to fuse hiphop with other art forms and dance styles and to inform and give depth to the hiphop genre.
Students learn to master hiphop techniques and many of them go onto become skilled dancers who pursue careers in the sector. They become ambassadors for Solid Ground attracting new talent that fills the space they leave behind. A varied group has participated in training, modest demonstrations and productions over the last few years and Solid Ground collaborates with various partners including many theatres and venues in Amsterdam, Kunstbende, Roots Festival, Cosmic MC, Tropenmuseum, Uitmarkt, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Dansgroep Amsterdam, Don't Hit Mamma, Dox and De Nederlandse Dansdagen.
Solid Ground works closely with partners in Surinam and the artistic directors Alida Dors and Bryan Druiventak have worked on various productions there. Solid Ground also takes part in various international ‘battles’, such as the annual competition in Germany, B-boy Summit.
