Judith Nab
Spectators as the centre point
None
On entering one of Judith Nab’s installations, the spectator immediately finds himself at the centre of interest. They and Nab’s live art productions, mostly without actors, are characterized by playful situations. Other characteristic elements in Nab’s work are the use of light and darkness, the blending of all kinds of new technologies, the movement of objects and figures, and animation, film, video, music and sound samples (recorded and real time), fragments of interviews, etc.
Most of the work is site-specific. Other work is suitable for the black box or is intended for exhibition spaces.
Nab’s focus has always been on the various possibilities of perceiving reality. Another thread is the relationship between our lives and our environment in terms of space, landscape and architecture. Judith Nab manipulates the perception of time and space in a subtle and poetic way and she creates an atmosphere that compels the spectator to temporarily lose his certainties.
Judith Nab studied theatre in Paris for six years. In 1991, she founded Théâtre Espace and developed her first production on the seashore of the Dutch coast. She has been working independently in Amsterdam since 2000 and has produced work for various festivals, theatres and museums in Belgium (HETPALEIS, Antwerp, and Zomer van Antwerpen), Italy (Teatro a Corte Torino), France (including La Chartreuse, Villeneuve-les Avignon, Monuments Nationaux and In Situ- Marseille) and The Netherlands (including Kröller-Müller Museum, Scheltema Leiden and Corrosia!)
She is currently working on a long term project, together with scientists and children called The Rest of the World (and Beyond), which will result in a large installation for adults and children in 2013.
