For the last fifteen years, the Lunatics have been producing raw yet poetic expressive spectacle theatre in unusual locations throughout Europe and beyond. Always packed with stunts and special effects. Humour, fantasy and the elements water, fire, air and earth battle for supremacy, often in the literal sense. A mixture of absurdity and realism creates an outlandish reality in which nothing is what it seems. Their productions, which have no text, provide an inspiring platform for social issues such as nature and human emotions. Realistic situations meet the unexplainable, logic meets mystery.
The Lunatics’ higher aspiration is to breathe new life into ‘the art of fantasy’. They want to force people into allowing their imagination to take them beyond the bounds of reality. In the wild hope that fantasy will run away with reality, making it more hopeful, exciting, better and richer. Because today’s reality is so excruciatingly boring, frighteningly small-minded and increasingly devoid of imagination.
The Lunatics perform all over the world. Since 2000, they have performed in Europe, South-America and the USA and they have created co-productions with local artists in Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico and South Korea.
Vindstille was a co-production with the Nordland Visual Theatre, Stamsund, Norway. Three wandering souls - a father, a son and a lover - bound together by a woman and the sea, desperately attempt to reconstruct and relive the precious memories of their wife, mother and loved one, and a storm of memories is unleashed. Poetic object theatre bears witness to the boundless power of memories, and the beauty of goodbyes. ‘Insanely entertaining and painfully beautiful. The Lunatics and Norland Visual Theatre’s Vindstille describes loss in a way that tears the soul’(according to a Norwegian newspaper). Vindstille is available until 2013.
