Anoukvandijk dc is the dance company directed by Anouk van Dijk. Her passionate yet contemplative work offers an insight into the way we try to hold our ground in the complex world in which we live. The mix between Anouk van Dijk’s singular language of movement, her sharp reflections on the world, and the characteristic sense of humour with which she puts things into perspective have won the company a unique position within the international field of contemporary dance. A position further strengthened by the fact that Anouk van Dijk is the only Dutch choreographer to have developed her own movement system. This technique, the Countertechnique, occupies a prominent place in the publication Dance Techniques 2010, the first ever publication to extensively analyse and contrast different modern, post-modern and contemporary dance techniques with each other. Anouk van Dijk’s work is varied and can take the form of black box, large-scale and site-specific productions as well as process-oriented research projects.

Anouk van Dijk has been appointed new artistic director of Chunky Move, the dance company for the city of Melbourne, Australia. She will take up the position in 2012.

International:

Anouk van Dijk has always performed internationally, premiering her first works at international festivals such as Klapstuk and Springdance. Her work Stau has been presented all over the world: from the United States and Australia to Asia and Russia, as well as all over Europe. Her international breakthrough was Nothing Hurts (2000), a collaboration with German director Falk Richter. They worked together again on Trust in 2009 and on Protect me in 2010, both co-productions with the Schaubühne Berlin. Both productions have been performed at international festivals around the world, including Festival d’Avignon, Festival d’Otoño in Madrid, Perth International Arts Festival and the Festival TransAmériques in Montreal. Van Dijk and Richter will continue their collaboration in 2012 with Rausch, a co-production with the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
