Under the artistic leadership of choreographer André Gingras, Dance Works Rotterdam|André Gingras places contemporary dance in a social context: the company creates raw and energetic dance productions which bring relevant moral dilemmas into the theatre world. His exploration of movement finds its inspiration in martial arts, free running, the physical symptoms related to specific medical conditions, and in post-modern dance and theatre. His ambition is to interface dance with the visual and digital arts and to engage audiences in a dialogue based on contemporary issues.

The range of the company’s repertory includes theatre productions, as well as video installations, community art projects and collaborations with international artists and organizations such as Canadian ‘enfant terrible’ Dave St-Pierre (Libido), composers Joseph Hyde and Jürgen De Blonde, Tanzhaus NRW (Düsseldorf), Künstlerhaus Mousonturm (Frankfurt), OperaEstate (Italy), Dancing on the Edge (Netherlands) and The Dance Centre (Canada).

International:

Since the appointment of André Gingras in 2010, Dance Works Rotterdam|André Gingras has been invited to festivals and theatres in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, USA, Portugal, Poland, Lithuania, Croatia and Brasil. Big stage productions such as The Autopsy Project (2007) and Anatomica (2011) as well as smaller productions like the internationally acclaimed CYP17 (2000) and the video installation Les Commerçants continue to tour successfully abroad. The latest piece, The Sweet Art of Bruising, will be available for international touring.

Dance Works Rotterdam|André Gingras also offers technique/repertory workshops as part of the company’s tour programmes.
