De Dansers (The Dancers, formerly known as Merkx & Dansers) is a professional dance group under the artistic direction of Wies Merkx based in The Netherlands and building on a repertoire of contemporary dance for a young audience. De Dansers’ productions are performed over 120 times a year in theatres and festivals both nationally and internationally. By working with new choreographers and dancers on exceptional projects close to children’s own environments, the company also provides the development of dance for young people with a new a impulse for the future.
In 2011 a young band of dancers and musicians emerged from De Dansers’ nest calling itself Ed Sanders and they are addressing new audiences with compositions that preserve the mean between concert and dance performance.
International:
De Dansers is part of a close-knit, international network. The company tours Belgium on a regular basis and has a permanent relationship with Tanzhaus NRW, Germany and Dansstationen, Sweden. De Dansers dances and debates frequently at international festivals, like Szene Bunte Wähne in Austria, Woking Dance Festival in England, Blickfelder in Switzerland and SITN in Madrid. In 2011, the acrobatic production Tetris visited Belgium, Germany, Turkey and France and they are also preparing for a residence project in France in 2012.
