The Ro Theater is one of the three largest theatre companies in the Netherlands. It is firmly rooted in its home city of Rotterdam, with a permanent ensemble and an innovative, modern and varied repertoire by a range of theatre makers for large and medium-sized theatres and various audience groups. The artistic director of the Ro Theater is Alize Zandwijk, one of the permanent directors alongside Pieter Kramer and Jetse Batelaan. Zandwijk’s work includes Shakespeare as well as Brecht and contemporary playwrights such as Wajdi Mouawad and Dea Loher. She is internationally renowned for her raw, physical style which she has been creating with a strong group of actors. Pieter Kramer’s work is more playful, a mix of popular and high art owing something to the musical and appealing to a broad audience. Jetse Batelaan’s work has a great affinity with contemporary Dutch mime and his productions bear an unmistakable sense of delicacy. Instead of idolising the unusual or lingering over unattainable dreams, they rather seek, and reflect on, the comfort of recognition.

International:

The Ro Theater co-produces regularly with KVS Brussels in Belgium. During the last fifteen years, the company has performed at many international festivals and at many international venues. Alize Zandwijk also directs at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and Theater Bremen.

The following productions are available for internationally: Hondsdagen/Dogdays, Branden/Scorched, Moeders/Mothers, Baal (directed by Alize Zandwijk) and Variété Bodybuilders, Broeders/Brothers, Reuzen/Giants (directed by Jetse Batelaan).
